Unlike most mobile browsers, Opera Mini (the client) receives its web pages through a proxy server hosted by Opera Software. These proxy servers will take care of rendering the page, adapting it to the screen format, and resizing the images. The page is sent to the client in the OBML markup language (Opera Binary Markup Language).

This approach to the mobile Internet has many advantages.:

since the client does not contain visualization tools, it is very light: 146 KiB ;
Rendering requires a lot of resources, so it will be faster on Opera Software servers than on a mobile device.;
The client works smoothly even on older devices.;
The traffic between the server and the client has been significantly revised down (by a ratio of 2 to 3, depending on the page and the quality of the selected images), which improves page loading speed and reduces the use of the quota allocated by the operator, which is usually small.;
the proxy rendering mechanism is similar to Opera 9.5 ;
This approach also creates certain problems.:

GIF animations are converted to still images.;
Flash is not supported;
JavaScript starts, but the page needs to be reloaded for each action.;
If Opera Software's servers are overloaded or unavailable, browsing will be much slower.;
You cannot use Opera Mini on the internal network or without access to Opera Software servers.;
Geolocation is not possible

Two navigation modes are available:

Normal navigation: The rendering is very close to what we get on a computer, the first zoom level allows you to see the page in full, and the second zoom level allows you to see the text in a size suitable for reading. Paragraphs are resized across the width of the screen for easier reading.;
Mobile navigation: The page is displayed in one column;
You can choose not to activate the images or choose one of the 3 quality levels to further reduce the size of the pages. The browser offers a choice of three text size levels.

Opera Mini supports the navigation bar, numeric keypad, and stylus.

The connection between the client is constantly maintained using sockets, which allows you to synchronize the browser with Opera Link in real time and improve response time, however, you can use an HTTP connection if the operator does this. do not accept a socket connection, in this case the page display is slower, and synchronization is not performed in real time.

Opera Mini supports HTTP protocol, as well as RSS feeds (with the possibility of subscribing to them), FTP protocol and, starting from version 3.0, provides secure access to websites.

Opera Software has about 100 backup servers dedicated to Opera Mini and running Linux Losing a bet feels frustrating, but some promotions soften the blow.
