What would you think if I told you that your thoughts and emotions affect your weight and physical health? Or maybe you believe that your physical well-being is determined solely by what you eat, drink, the toxins you are exposed to or accidents that happen to you?  In short – external factors.

Why is that? Mainly because scientists say so.  They have determined that weight gain is the result of calories in/calories out.  Their studies support toxins as sources of cancer and pharmaceutical companies create drugs that help to relieve symptoms.

We have been brainwashed to believe that we are victims of outside influences and that we have no control over our health.

I believe that we are not victims.  We have the power to change our health, because we have contributed to our own health conditions through the energetic power of our thoughts and emotions.  And this is why.

Everything is energy.  Atoms are energy.  Electrons give them an electromagnetic charge.  Atoms make up molecules which make up cells.  Therefore, your body, and everything in the universe, is made of energy and has an electromagnetic charge.

Your thoughts and emotions are electrical and can be seen in MRI scans which view electromagnetic activity in the brain.  A study in 2013 at Carnegie Mellon University using an fMRI or (Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging) device determined that each emotion has a neural signature pattern in the brain.

The Connection Between Emotions and Your Body

The ancient Chinese understood how energy runs in the body and created the acupuncture system thousands of years ago.  They identified energetic meridians, 10 of which are associated with specific organs in the body and specific emotions.

Discord in these meridians can result in health problems with the associated organs.  This supports the western medicine term “psychosomatic”.  Which means a “physical disorder caused by or influenced by emotional factors”.  Also known as the mind/body connection.

Meridian/Organ/Emotion Connection

An explanation of the meridian/organ/emotion connections is found in the book, The Acupressure Atlas, by Doctors Kolster and Waskowiak.

Lungs and the large intestine are associated with the emotions of sadness and grief.

If a person has experienced a loss in their life – a loved one, marriage, a good job, even a pet – and they experience an acute or prolonged feeling of grief and sadness, they may develop an illness such as allergies, sinus problems, constipation or illness of the lung or intestine.

The spleen and the stomach’s associated emotion is worry.  Symptoms of an imbalance in these meridians could be weak muscles, diarrhea and even stomach or spleen failure.

Have you ever heard someone say “Stop worrying or you will make yourself sick.”?  Mind/body, right?

This happened to Dr. Robert Muller’s mother.  In an article in Psychology Today, he explained how his mother, who thrived on her children’s successes, but worried constantly about their futures, developed a stomach ulcer that bled so seriously that one day she passed out.

Fear is the primary emotion of the kidney and bladder meridians.  Life experiences that lead to intense or chronic fear can cause disease in the organs, bladder infections, kidney stones or the need to urinate during the night.

The liver and gallbladder’s emotion is anger.  Symptoms may show up as problems with muscles, tendons and the nails or in illness of the liver or gallbladder.

Finally, your happiness and vitality are connected with the heart and small intestine meridians.  Disharmony in these meridians can show up as high or low blood pressure, insomnia or depression.

A Method to Heal Your Body by Healing Your Emotions

I hope this has helped you understand that in order to heal your  physical body, looking into your emotional health and helping you resolve past traumas and release long-held negative emotions can be a faster, more effective and, in the long run, cheaper solution.

In my coaching practice I work with the emotional body.  I use an alternative therapy called Emotional Freedom Techniques, also known as EFT or Tapping because you tap on certain acupressure points during the process.  In sessions with my clients we identify life experiences that caused them some form of distress.  We use EFT on the memory of that experience and the associated emotions.  This neutralizes the emotional intensity of the experience so that it no longer negatively affects their life and health.

EFT is simple, painless and faster than many conventional therapies.  Over 100 studies have proven the effectiveness of EFT.  In studies with combat veterans with PTSD.  After 6-10 sessions, their symptoms decreased so much that they no longer met the clinical criteria for PTSD.

If EFT can do that for combat veterans, think of what it can do for you or a loved one that has a chronic illness, is constantly stressed, in chronic pain or has some other health issue.

You Are In Control of Your Health

I hope that this information has opened your eyes and minds and given you the awareness that in order to really heal physical illness, you must first begin with healing the emotional body.

I also hope this has helped you understand that you really are in control of your health when you harness the power of your thoughts and emotions.
